HOUSTON VEHICLE WRAP FAQ
What is the vehicle wrapping process?
After contacting our vehicle wrap division, we will set up a meeting with you to go over your design ideas. We then require a 50% deposit to begin your custom vehicle wrap design. After you approve the design, we will then print and install your vehicle wrap.
How much does a vehicle wrap cost?
Wrap prices vary depending on how much of the vehicle will be wrapped. We can create anything from simple vinyl lettering to a full vehicle wrap. Our wrap division will help design graphics to meet any budget.
Will you design my wrap or do I have to provide my own design?
Either option is available. If your design has already been created, there is a setup fee to ensure the design is ready for printing. We can also create your design from scratch. Our vehicle wrap division will take your ideas and design a wrap that is perfect for you!
Should I prep my vehicle prior to the wrap installation?
Yes, we would prefer the vehicle to be washed before you bring it in for the install. This way we can assure the wrap will be completed in the proper amount of time.
How is the wrap produced?
Our vehicle wraps and wall graphics are printed in-house on the best grade of Vinyl. All graphics are thoroughly inspected and approved by our wrap division prior to the installation.
How long does it take to install a vehicle wrap?
The installation is usually completed within one to three days. The exact time depends on the size of the vehicle, amount of wrap coverage, and the detail of the wrap. We give our customers a time frame of completion prior to starting the wrap installation.
Where is the wrap installed?
Vehicle wraps are installed at our controlled facility. This way we have access to all of the equipment necessary to ensure a high quality install. In certain circumstances, we will travel to the customer for a wrap installation; travel fees may apply.
Won’t the printed graphics fade under the sun?
UV rays can cause printed graphics to lose their color over time, but we have a solution for this. After the graphic is printed, we overlay it with a laminate film to protect the vinyl from UV rays. The laminate will also protect the vinyl graphics from abrasions.
Help! I think I damaged my wrap!
Worry not! You can have the damaged panels replaced. There is no need to redo the whole wrap if the damage is limited to certain parts of the vehicle only.
Will I be able to see through the windows if they’re wrapped?
Yes, we can use perforated film for windows. Window perforated vinyl has tiny holes that let you see out the window much like a regular window tint.
What if I want to sell my car?
You can choose to retain the wrap or remove it to return the car to its original state. Car wraps are completely removable and don’t damage the original paint, so your car’s resale value is retained.
Is a vehicle wrap cheaper that a paint job?
The cost of designing and installing a vehicle wrap is less than a paint job covering the same area. As for the effect, vehicle wraps wear as well as paint with proper maintenance.
What kinds of wraps are available?
We have a variety of 3M and Avery Dennison car wrapping materials to cater to our clients’ needs. Our vinyl wrapping film can have a gloss, semi-gloss, matte, carbon fiber, metallic, chrome, and brushed steel finishes.
How do I care for my vehicle wrap?
We recommend hand washing your vehicle with a non-abrasive sponge, soap and water. Do not high pressure wash the wrap, it could cause the vinyl to tear or seems to peel. Avoid using ice scrapers on the windows that have perforated vinyl.
Do you offer a wrap warranty?
Yes, we offer a Two Year Warranty. Our warranty covers bubbling and peeling issues.
Can the wrap be removed?
Yes, the wrap can be removed from your vehicle. Removing the wrap will not cause damage to the paint, as long as the paint is in good condition. We do not recommend uninstalling the wrap yourself, as this could cause damage to the vehicle’s paint.
Will a vehicle wrap damage my factory paint?
A wrap should not damage your vehicle’s paint. A wrap will actually help to protect and preserve the paint.
Can you wrap vehicle windows?
Yes, we use a special perforated vinyl on the rear windows. This vinyl allows you to be able to see out the windows while still maintaining the look of the wrap. Using the defrosters will not damage the window wrap.
What if I need to change information on my wrap after install?
We can update your graphics, phone numbers, websites, logos, etc. if your company information were to change. We will update the design then reprint and reinstall the new wrap panels. Standard charges will apply.
Do you offer discounts for wrapping multiple vehicles?
Yes, we do offer a discount for wrapping fleets of vehicles. Please contact us for details.
Will a wrap completely cover the existing color of the vehicle?
Advertising wraps can show minor areas of preexisting vehicle color. It mostly depends on the underlying color, if you’re getting a white vehicle wrap installed overtop of a bright blue, some of that blue can shine through.
Will a vehicle wrap hide any scratches, dings, or dents in my vehicle?
Any imperfections in the paint, or any damage to the vehicle, will cause issues. In most cases, we will not install vinyl on a vehicle with these preexisting conditions. The main reason for this is due to high likelihood of vinyl failure.
Will the wrap look seamless? Will there be patches?
It’s not uncommon for there to be seams and patches on an advertising wrap. This is especially true in areas where two panels of the printed wrap are merging or areas with tight curves—like door handles, corners of the hood, fenders, bumpers, etc.
Will there be breaks in the design based on the way it lays on a vehicle?
Yes, any inlays on the vehicle, door breaks, windows, badges, door handles etc… will create naturally breaks in the design, though they will be minimal.
Will wrap designs be perfectly aligned across the whole vehicle?
While installers do the best to align designs, the design is broken up into separate panels. When those panels are installed on a vehicle it is possible for a design to not align perfectly from panel to panel, causing a minor misalignment. A misalignment of a ¼ inch is industry standard and viewed as acceptable.
Will there be vinyl ripples, bubbles, or imperfections in the wrap?
There is the possibility for ripples, bubbles and imperfections in an advertising wrap. These imperfections are minimal and exist in areas such as door jambs, natural vehicle breaks, and inlays. These imperfections will not be noticeable from 6 feet away and will only be seen if you inspect the vehicle from close range.
Will all cuts on the wrap be perfectly straight?
There will be cuts on the vinyl that, when looked at from close range, will not be perfectly straight. That said, when looked at from 6 feet away will not be noticeable. This is considered acceptable within the industry.
1. What Are Some Of The Advantages Of Using Custom Wraps For Off-Premise Advertising?
-
Affordability. Most custom wraps will cost you less upfront than a one-month billboard rental (especially in larger markets), and they will keep generating impressions for 5 to 7 years with proper maintenance.
-
Custom wraps transform every parking spot, commute or cross-town service call into an opportunity to increase your brand visibility. Research by ARD Ventures estimates that the average custom wrap generates “between 30,000 to 70,000 daily vehicular impressions.”
-
Whereas billboards only work when viewers come to them, custom wraps let you take your message anywhere you please. Once your vehicle is wrapped, you can park it on the premises to strengthen your sign systems and target new viewing angles, or take your message on the road to expand your audience.
-
Low competition, high engagement. Most signs are viewed in highly competitive signscapes, where neighboring signs are constantly fighting for your audiences’ attention. In contrast, custom wraps are usually encountered out on the road where sign competition is much lower, even nonexistent, so they tend to produce much higher levels of engagement. In fact, research by the American Trucking Association found that 96% of drivers notice custom wraps on the road, and they create positive impressions of the advertiser 98% of the time.
2. What Kinds Of Vehicles Are Suitable For Custom Wraps?
The Custom Sign & Graphics Haus team can wrap just about any vehicle, including:
-
Buses
-
Cars
-
Pick Up Trucks
-
Box Trucks
-
Vans
-
SUV’s
-
Food trucks
-
Trailers, and more
If your vehicle doesn’t appear on this list, get in touch with our custom wrap team to discuss your options.
3. Can I Install Custom Wraps On Any Surface?
Custom wraps are easiest to install on smooth, flat, nonporous surfaces, but our specialists have the equipment and expertise to work with concave surfaces (recesses), convex surfaces (compound curves), and riveted surfaces, too.
We usually avoid wrapping grained or textured surfaces (e.g. parts of mirrors or body trim), as well as any unpainted surfaces like trim and bumpers, as it can be difficult to achieve proper adhesion. We do not recommend wrapping any rusted parts of your vehicle to prevent further damage during removal.
In terms of materials, custom wraps adhere particularly well to PVC, steel, aluminum, glass, and melamine. Some plastics used in vehicle manufacturing, such as polypropylene and polyethylene, can be difficult to wrap, but this should be determined on a case-by-case basis.
To determine whether or not your vehicle’s surface is suitable, please get in touch with our team and ask about conducting a preliminary substrate vinyl adhesion test.
4. How Do Custom Vehicle Wraps Fare In The Houston Heat?
Because some custom wrap removals are heat-assisted, some people worry that Houston’s scorching summers will negatively affect vinyl adhesives. But as long as you invest in the right products and use qualified installers, you won’t have to worry—in fact, some products are rated for use in temperatures as high as 224 degrees!
5. What Are The Best Alternatives To Custom Wraps For Businesses With A Limited Budget?
If you’re looking to create a mobile billboard on a budget, consider:
-
Partial wraps
-
Vehicle decals
-
Vehicle magnets
